Are you looking forward to starting your own podcast, here are the steps on how you can achieve that:
Plan your podcast
You need to determine who your target audience to remain relevant. If you are using the podcast for business, freelance or marketing, you will plan in such a way that you will provide valuable and entertaining content to your audience. If is for business, you may also need to read our home office must haves. However, if you are doing it as a hobby, you will only focus on the things you are passionate about whether the audience likes them or not.
Naming your podcast
You can use your name, a descriptive name or craft a clever name for your podcast. If you decide to use a clever name, it should relate to the purpose of the podcast and it should be easy to remember and search. There is no need of looking for a name no one will find when searching. It will not serve the purpose. When using a descriptive name, it should be captivating, short and convenient. Remember you will have to mention the name a lot when making the podcast, make sure you can pronounce it with ease.
Planning your episodes
Here, you will have to plan how long an episode will be. This will be determined by your audience and the content you are sharing. However, it should not be too long to avoid boring your audience or repeating ideas when recording.
You will also have to decide how often you will be releasing episodes. Some people plan in hours of a day while others do it in days of the week. It is up to you to have a plan on how you will be releasing episodes. Your content will play a role here because you need to have topics to discuss. Avoid making podcasts just to meet a deadline. Rather, you should deliver quality content during the days or hours you’ve scheduled your podcast to gain traction.
Just like choosing the name of your podcast, your episode titles should be good, searchable and descriptive. You should never name your episodes as 1, 2,3,4,5 etc. because no one can be able to search and find the content!
There are several formats which you can use. Since you own the podcast, you can experiment to find out which works best for you and your audience. You can do it solo, have a co-hosted show where you invite a friend or a colleague to help you or have it as an interview. As you experiment, you will find the most ideal format to be used although you can interchange from time to time.
Recording the podcast
To have a high-quality podcast, consider buying the right equipment for the job. A computer with a built-in microphone is the minimum requirement if you want to record a podcast. However, you can research online to find out what other equipment you can use or buy to make your podcast better.
Recording and editing
You can download a computer software to help you record and edit your podcast. Adobe Audition and audacity are the most popular software you can use. If you don’t know how to use any of this software, research online or get help from a friend who has been using them. After you’ve made your podcast, you need to edit it using the same software you were using to record. If you don’t know how to do it or you need to have a professional podcast, hiring an expert is recommended.
